Chair of Marketing Management (IfM)

We, the Chair of Marketing Management, are happy to welcome you on our website.

Our young and passionate team is led by Prof. Dr. Manfred Krafft. Since the foundation in 1969 by Prof. Dr. Heribert Meffert, the Chair of Marketing Management is famous for cutting-edge research and high-quality education.

Our work at the Chair of Marketing Management is always guided by our overarching conceptual philosophy of Marketing Strategy and Customer Centricity. Those concepts being the core of our activities, we cover three adjacent main research areas: Sales Management, Channels & Retailing, and Customer Management. Beyond that, we ensure that our activities are embedded into crucial fundamentals: Firstly, our research is based on analytics and state-of-the-art methodologies. Secondly, we aim to bridge the gap between research and practice by providing rigorous and relevant contemporary research. Last but not least, we address ethics and sustainability issues in our academic work.

Our research is frequently published in renowned, international journals. We enjoy collaborating with our global network of leading academic and professional partners by means of conferences, guest lectures, and research projects.

Professor Krafft’s publications include numerous articles in international journals as well as monographs, textbooks, edited books, and a substantial number of articles in edited volumes. Additionally, he serves as a board member and reviewer for prestigious academic journals (please find more information here).

  • Teaching

The Chair of Marketing Management is known nationally and internationally for its excellent teaching. Providing high-quality education is our utmost priority. Based on a strong academic foundation, we encourage proactive and interdisciplinary thinking through projects as well as group and individual assignments. In order to maintain the quality of our teaching, we constantly challenge our course contents and methods. Further on, we are highly responsive and dedicated in providing our students with the necessary support and inspiration. We aim for a broad course offering – covering both, strategic and operational aspects of marketing management. On the one hand, we integrate our own research areas in Customer Management, Sales Management, and Channels & Retailing in our course offerings. On the other hand, we aim at bringing our overarching conceptual philosophy closer to our students.

To ensure practical relevance, we collaborate with international companies (e.g., Dow, Henkel, Mars, McKinsey, Porsche, Vodafone) as well as start-ups and SMEs during seminars and guest lectures. Moreover, we aim at providing our students access to valuable practical experience. The Chair of Marketing Management is one of the founders of the Circle of Excellence in Marketing (CEM) – a 1-year talent program offering versatile workshops with partner companies such as L’Oréal and EY-Parthenon for outstanding marketing students.

Besides its excellent teaching, the Chair of Marketing Management is a true talent scout for young marketeers which has been confirmed by WiWi Talents awarding the chair for the second time as a talent bench. Our chair has successfully nominated 14 marketing students over the last five years for the “WiWi-Talents” program, which is listed among the scholarships coordinated by us. We are happy to support our students and always strive for a close and lively exchange.
